A definite must is the possibility to play in teams. Players could organise themselves into two teams, and scoring would change so that you only gain points from killing players on the opposing team. Killing a player in your own team should probably penalise you.

The details are still open. Should there be a sanction already from hitting your teammate? Probably it would be too harsh as I suspect there will be lots of stray shots that hit your buddies.

It's also worth considering if you should receive reduced damage or even no damage from your teammates' bullets. This would make it safe to play in a team -- you wouldn't have to worry that your not-too-accurate friend is going to blow you up in a tight spot by accident.

This feature is still very top on the list, but atleast at this moment player registration / statistics are taking priority over this and we are also waiting the player base hopefully to grow a bit making teamplay more meaningful.

Now that pilot registration and statistics have been done (a few months ago) and the most recent big push, integrating Farseer Physics Engine into Assault Wing has also been completed, the next big hurdle we have chosen is teamplay. We are actually aiming more generally to implement various gameplay modes which could include team deathmatch, domination, fox and hound and other tried and true mechanics. I'd expect it to take roughly 1-2 months to get the first new gameplay mode published, though this is not a promise of schedule ;-)
